Guardian Air: Detecting Attacks via Wireless Frequencies

22. October, 2024

There were 16.6 billion connected IoT devices in 2023. That number will grow to 18.8 billion by the end of 2024 and 40 billion by the end of 2030, IoT Analytics calculates in its latest State of IoT Summer 2024 report. Three technologies account for nearly 80% of all IoT connections: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, LTE-M and NB-IoT).

Wireless communication is therefore one of the greatest threats to the security of critical infrastructure. It is inherently vulnerable to jamming, eavesdropping, man-in-the-middle attacks and other security risks. Even advanced security solutions offer limited protection because they only detect wireless threats after they have connected to the wired network.

First Wireless Security Sensor for OT and IoT Environments

IKARUS presents Guardian Air by Nozomi Networks, the world’s only wireless frequency sensor specifically designed for OT and IoT environments. With Guardian Air, companies can detect unauthorized infrastructures such as cell towers, spoofing devices, LoRaWAN, building automation protocols, or drones, including the devices attached to them. It identifies specific threats like brute force attacks, spoofing, bluejacking, or deauthentication attacks and can triangulate the location of the devices carrying out the attacks.

The data from Guardian Air is processed and visualized in Nozomi’s cloud-based management system, Vantage, alongside network and endpoint data. This provides companies with a comprehensive view of their OT and IoT environments, offering insights into all potential attack surfaces, vulnerability assessments, and real-time threat detection.

Integrating the OT security technologies into industrial networks

IKARUS has specialized in industrial cybersecurity for over two decades and understands the specific challenges of local businesses. Therefore, IKARUS not only handles system integration but also provides consulting and support throughout the entire process—from needs analysis to implementation, training, and regular maintenance of your solutions.

We work with you to design future-proof solutions that deliver immediate benefits, while also being able to adapt to new requirements, whether due to growth or a changing threat landscape. When implementing technologies, we take special care to ensure that your business operations are not disrupted and that the solutions integrate seamlessly with existing systems.

For companies looking to gain initial insights into Nozomi Networks technologies, IKARUS offers a low threshold starting point with the PoV package: with minimal effort, you can test the OT security sensor Guardian in your own environment under real conditions and experience full visibility over your assets. Additionally, based on the collected data, you will receive tailored security recommendations from our Industrial Cybersecurity team. This step-by-step approach helps you enhance security for your operations and increase resilience against disruptions and cyberattacks.

Guardian Air: Live Demo at the IKARUS booth at it-sa 2024

How can deauthentication attacks be executed within seconds? What does the detection and triangulation of unauthorized drones look like in the backend? IKARUS will demonstrate live threat detection and defense with Guardian Air at the it-sa Expo & Congress 2024 from October 22-24. Visit us at booth 7-217!
